Nanyang Polytechnic had an amazing Open House 2025, augmenting the event with PlayTours as their event gamification and scavenger hunt app solution. PlayTours supported thousands of players, helping them navigate and facilitate the open house activities throughout the campus.
Let’s have a deep dive into the features of PlayTours that ensured the success of their event!
With hundreds of prospective students streaming in every hour, it will be difficult for student helpers to ask them to go through the install process, create an account, and use an app. Instead, they simply have to scan a QR code, enter their name and email, and start using the app. All within 15 seconds!
Plus, by putting their email, the participant will receive an email with a unique link that they can click to jump straight into the app to start where they stopped. This was incredibly useful as the Open House 2025 even spans multiple days.
PlayTours was used by multiple schools and departments so that it was a single point-of-entry, instead of participants having to register multiple times for each school. However, that could make it unwieldy for them to navigate.
Using PlayTours task categories feature, participants can click on the place they are at, so they do not get overwhelmed.
Students complete tasks to collect points, and in turn, are able to redeem prizes. Different schools had different logic and mechanisms, and PlayTours’ amazing configurability made it easy for them to implement them.
Tasks can be set to appear only after a certain number of points are collected. This mechanism can be used to create tasks that they can show to a collection booth to collect their rewards.
For example, they can use the QR code scanning task to appear only after they get 50 points, and then scan a QR code at the redemption booth. Upon showing a success message, the student volunteer can hand over their reward.
If schools want to encourage students to attempt a specific set of booths or activities, they can simply give more points to those tasks. This will compel participants to focus on those tasks to gain lots of points.
Some tasks require validation, for example, NYP had a task where players have to submit a selfie to participate in a Singapore Book of Records event. Instead of manually checking each submission, they used PlayTours’ “Judge Image AI” feature to accurately validate their submissions using AI.
This made it even more possible for them to be awarded the Singapore Book of Records for “most people contributing to a digital avatar montage”
Nanyang Polytechnic’s Open House 2025 was a huge success, and PlayTours played a big part in making it an engaging and hassle-free experience for everyone. With its easy web-based access, smart task organization, flexible reward system, and AI-powered photo validation, visitors could explore the campus and take part in activities without any fuss.
NYP’s use of PlayTours proved how gamification can turn an open house into an exciting and memorable adventure.
